Discover Dolgellau’s charming pubs
One of the best ways to immerse yourself in the local culture is by visiting its charming pubs. Whether you're a fan of traditional ales, hearty pub grub, or simply soaking in the local atmosphere, Dolgellau's pubs have something for everyone.
Here I will write about a few of our favorites that will make your stay even more memorable.
For a great pizza and a great friendly atmosphere, the Stag Inn is the place to be. I especially liked that the pizza comes with scissors as this is the way I’ve been advocating cutting it to my partner for years!
The pub has everything you need really making you feel welcome – the garden is great as well. It’s a must-visit during your Dolgellau stay. We are keen to become regular visitors here as we didn’t discover it until more recently when we went in for a lunchtime pizza - I can’t wait to go back.
Check out the glowing reviews it gets.
Located in the heart of Dolgellau's this family-run establishment puts on live music and offers great food. It’s modern whilst keeping its unique 18th century charm – there is a good changing selection of local ales (pub is a former CAMRA pub of the year winner). I’ve been impressed with everything I’ve eaten here! It’s also a suitable place to take children, with a good kids food menu. Notably it’s a great music pub – you can see lots of local bands play here and I enjoy seeing the legacy of the Sesiwn Fawr festival here by looking at all the posters on display. It’s definitely worth stopping here for drinks, food, or evening entertainment!
See here for other reviews of the pub - if I didn’t manage to convince you.
If you're looking to combine your pub visit with a beautiful view, the George III Hotel is a top choice. Situated on the banks of the stunning Mawddach Estuary, this pub offers breathtaking vistas of the surrounding natural beauty. Sip on a cold beverage while taking in the serene waters and majestic mountains. They also have a restaurant serving delicious meals made from locally sourced ingredients, so you can satisfy your hunger while enjoying the scenery. We enjoy the food here less than the pubs in the centre of Dolgellau but the view makes up for it!
Just a short drive from Dolgellau, you'll find The Cross Foxes Inn, a good pub that's perfect for a change of scenery. They offer a diverse menu that includes everything you’d expect from classic pub food – we find it slightly expensive but you can always rely on the quality to be good. The outdoor seating area make it an ideal place to relax and enjoy a meal or a drink. It’s not somewhere we would regularly go unless it is convenient for where we have been that day – it can be a great place to stop for food on your way back to Dolgellau to break up a journey.
Visiting Dolgellau's pubs is not only about enjoying great drinks and food; it's also an opportunity to experience the town's unique character. As you plan your holiday, make sure to include these pubs in your itinerary to fully immerse yourself in the Dolgellau experience.
