A Warm and Welcoming Experience at Tafarn Y Gader Tapas, Bistro & Bar
During our recent visit to Dolgellau, we were fortunate enough to leave our children with fmaily and have a rare dinner alone at Tafarn Y Gader. I was keen to visit more local places we hadn’t tried so we could recommend more to our guests. My family had always given Tafarn Y Gader glowing reviews (as does trip advisor).
The menu at Tafarn Y Gader has a wide variety of tapas dishes some with a Welsh twist and they also serve paella. We changed our mind at the last minute and had tapas, as a consequence we probably didn’t think through the choices enough - it was lovely but we ordered a long of fried options. They dishes were all beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. The slow cooked Welsh lamb in filo pastry was divine.
The staff were really friendly, we chatted to a young local waiter and got good tips on what deserts to order.
But it's not just the food that impressed us. Tafarn Y Gader also boasts an extensive selection of drinks, including a wide variety of wines. I enjoyed a glass of red wine with my meal and could have easily drank more it was very smooth. The restaurant had a rustic interior like a European holiday charm and was busy, fully booked. We went early and there were other couples and young families there so if we return we would bring the children. We are keen to try the paella and also check out the garden next time!
Overall, our experience at Tafarn Y Gader was fantastic, and we highly recommend it to anyone in search of a great meal in Dolgellau. The warm and welcoming atmosphere, delicious food, and impressive selection of drinks make it a must-visit destination for anyone in the area. They have won Welsh food awards before and are nominated for 2023 the best Mediterranean establishment in Wales - we can see why.
Key information for your visit:
Less than a 5 minute walk away from Glasfryn.
There is good choice so I would say it’s suitable for multiple visits (even on the same holiday!) and it’s family friendly, we went early and there were several tables with children.
